In 2010 Kickstart Arts will teach and mentor 16 keen young people in both the technical and creative aspects of creating and producing to air a high quality radio serial which explores notional issues relating to climate change and the possible effects on the local community.
In airing the serial, the youth producers will take control of a regular program slot on the community radio. They will learn to program a full hour of radio – including the serial (30 minute episodes) and airplay for young and emerging Tasmanian bands, musicians, composers and other performers. There will be a particular focus on giving airplay to rural artists, building the perception in the local community that creativity and expression is valued, and providing positive role models for teenagers who are looking for guidance about how to live in their rural communities when traditional aspirations towards a farming life may be under threat as a result of outside forces.
