Andy Vagg: Designer/Maker

Andy Vagg is currently working as an artist / sculptor with community groups

to design and build Happiness Installations in residence at Bridgewater High school

where he is creating a numbers of site specific installations using recycled materials. was born in Sydney in 1964. He completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2007,at the Tasmanian School of Art, University of Tasmania, Hobart, majoring in sculpture.

Andy began his undergraduate studies at the University of Newcastle, after completing a Certificate III in Design Fundamentals at the Hunter Institute of Technology, in 2001. The same year, Andy won the 3D functional Art

category of the Waste As Art competition, and was runner up in the same category the following year. Andy’s art focuses on the unsustainable practices of consumerism and capitalism. His artworks are made from postconsumer materials, sourced from local tips shops, annual clean-ups or personal use. Andy has exhibited extensively in Newcastle, then Hobart over the past eight years. He is represented in private collections in Newcastle, Sydney and Hobart.

 

James Walsh: Music Teaching Artist/Performer, Specialising in Turntables, Spit Fire Project

James Walsh is Tasmania’s premier DJ, and is fast becoming a favourite across the country, both for his electrically charged club sets, and for his work with Tasmanian MCs. While he is well-known for working in hip hop, James is not limited by genre and can be found regularly spinning anything from reggae to rock, 70’s funk to deep, dark and dangerous breaks, dubstep and electro. James performed with the TSO in the Power Hip Hop concerts.

 

Jorge Burgess-Lowe: Emerging Music Teaching Artist/Performer, Spit Fire Project

Jorge has been active in the Hobart hip hop scene since 2002. He was a Top 9 finalist of the nationwide ‘Beathedz’ competition in 2006, judged by Jase of Obese Records and has supported Urthboy, Macromantics, Music VS Physics, Captain Ahab, The Funkoars and Curseovdialect. He also featured on New Zealand group Dark Tower’s ‘The Dark World’.

Jorge was mentored by Don Bate to write and perform a new work for the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra in 2009/2010, and has been part of Kickstart Arts Production Crew.

 

Seamus Lonnergan: Emerging Music Teaching Artist/Performer, Specialising in MIDI, Sampling and Lyric Writing, Spit Fire Project

Paddles is a Solo Emcee & Producer hailing from Hobart, Tasmania.Since 2006 he has supported acts including The Foreign Beggars, Pegz, Astronomy Class, Hermitude, Chasm & Vida-Sunshyne, Art of War, Muph & Plutonic, The Funkoars, The Tongue & Vents. Seamus was mentored by Simon Reed to write and perform a new work for the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra in 2009/2010.

 

Raef Sawford: Video artist, Rush of Blood project

Raef Sawford is a Phd candidate (E-Media) at The University of Tasmania, School of Art, where he is also currently an associate lecturer. From 2004 – 2007 he was the Creative Director of Roar Film, Hobart and has recently shown work at MONA FOMA, CAST and Six_A Artist Run Iniative.
